Drinks writer Robert Simonson includes this successful his database of “should-be classics,” reserved for modern cocktails that haven’t dispersed arsenic wide arsenic helium feels they should have.

Although this cocktail is vaguely reminiscent of a Last Word, the fume of Laphroaig Scotch turns it into thing wholly different. The look calls for Quarter Cask; we tested it with somewhat little pricey Laphroaig 10 and were rather satisfied with the result.

1 ounce greenish Chartreuse
1 ounce caller citrus juice
1/2 ounce Laphroaig Quarter Cask Scotch (see headnote)
1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur (not made from maraschino cherries)
1/2 ounce yellowish Chartreuse
2 dashes peach bitters
Twist of citrus peel, for garnish
