From astatine slightest the 1950s (and perchance earlier), cooks astatine the YWCA connected K Street NW baked cocoa spot cookies that gained a passionately loyal following. In 1977, The Post printed a look from Carol Finkelstein, an Arlington cooking teacher who had been rebuffed by the YWCA erstwhile she asked for the recipe. It produces big, crisp cookies with walnuts and coconut, too.

  • Cooking spray
  • 1 1/3 cups (167 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1 spoon baking soda
  • 1/4 spoon good salt
  • 4 tablespoons (62 grams) unsalted butter, quartered
  • 1/4 cupful (45 grams) rootlike shortening
  • 1/2 cupful (100 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cupful (55 grams) packed acheronian brownish sugar
  • 1 ample egg
  • 1 spoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cupful (60 grams) coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cupful (30 grams) sweetened shredded coconut
  • Scant 1/4 cupful (30 grams) semisweet cocoa chips
