A slimmer, trimmer sloppy Joe is the extremity here. Ground turkey is subbed for the crushed beef utilized successful the archetypal version, and it's accompanied by the accustomed sloppy Joe ingredients -- onion, a spiced-up herb condiment -- positive a saccharine surprise: applesauce. The effect is simply a milder Joe, with overmuch little abdominous -- but inactive sloppy. Serve connected toasted hamburger buns oregon kaiser rolls with coleslaw.

  • 1 lb crushed turkey
  • 1/2 cupful diced onion
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced oregon pressed (optional)
  • 3 tablespoons chickenhearted broth oregon low-sodium chickenhearted broth
  • 3/4 cupful unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/3 cupful ketchup
  • 1/4 cupful herb sauce
  • 1 tablespoonful Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoonful balsamic vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon-style mustard
  • 1 spoon citrus juice
  • 4 teaspoons airy brownish sugar
  • Pinch saccharine paprika
  • Salt
  • Freshly crushed achromatic pepper
