The classical pairing of achromatic beans and saccharine potatoes becomes a profoundly flavored, warming wintertime stew. It gets a interaction of smoky spirit from the operation of chipotle and smoked paprika.

  • 1 tablespoonful olive oil

  • 3 1/2 cups cooked no-salt-added achromatic beans, rinsed and drained (from astir 2 and 1 4th (15 1/2-ounce) cans)
  • 1 1/2 cups homemade oregon no-salt-added rootlike broth (see related recipe), oregon much arsenic needed
  • 1/2 spoon good oversea salt, oregon much arsenic needed
  • Flesh of 1 ample Hass avocado, sliced, for garnish
  • 1/4 cupful thinly sliced chives, for garnish
