This simple, classical marinara condiment is pedigreed: The look is from Rao’s, the New York City instauration whose store-bought condiment is besides beloved. (It was the wide victor successful The Washington Post’s 2023 sensation trial of market store marinara sauces.) The ingredients are minimal: bully canned San Marzano tomatoes, olive oil, and tiny amounts of garlic, onion, oregano and basil. Conveniently, this makes astir the aforesaid magnitude arsenic a 24-ounce jar of Rao’s — with astir fractional the sodium.

Ingredients

  • One (28-ounce) tin full peeled San Marzano tomatoes, preferably no-salt-added oregon reduced-sodium (such arsenic Cento brand), with their juices
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped yellowish onion
  • 1 ail clove, finely grated oregon pressed
  • 1/2 spoon good salt, positive much to taste
  • 3 ample caller basil leaves, torn
  • 1/2 spoon chopped caller oregano leaves
  • 1/4 spoon freshly crushed achromatic pepper, positive much to taste
