After Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, a reader, M.A.V., wrote to the Times-Picayune that her parent "lost each her cherished recipes successful the flood" and peculiarly wanted to find the look for Leah Chase's breadstuff pudding with praline liqueur. Leah Chase, whose household owns the landmark edifice Dooky Chase, is celebrated successful New Orleans for some her culinary prowess and her assemblage service.

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cupful praline liqueur oregon rum
  • 5 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 1 loaf (16 ounces) stale achromatic breadstuff oregon stale po-boy bread, cubed
  • 1 cupful chopped pecans, toasted (see Notes)
  • 1 cupful flaked oregon shredded coconut
  • 1 instrumentality (4 ounces) unsalted butter, melted

For the sauce

  • 1 cupful cane sugar
  • 1 tablespoonful cornstarch
  • 1 cupful water
  • 1 tablespoonful unsalted butter
  • 1 spoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons praline liqueur oregon rum
  • 1/4 cupful chopped pecans, toasted (see Notes)
