This classical Sazerac, arsenic prepared by Cure, 1 of the champion bars successful New Orleans, glows reddish from a generous dose of anisey Peychaud’s bitters.   • 1 cupful demerara sugar
  • 1/2 cupful water

For the drink

  • Ice
  • 2 ounces rye whiskey, preferably Sazerac Rye
  • 1/4 ounce affluent demerara syrup
  • 23 drops Peychaud's bitters
  • 4 spritzes Herbsaint oregon different anise-flavored liqueur
  • Lemon twist, for garnish
