For the caller Iron Chef D.C. location competition, Greg and Meredith Deviny served this crockery successful coconut shells. The chili-garlic condiment gives it immoderate punch.

Ingredients

Servings: 6-8 Makes 6 dinner-size servings oregon 8 first-course servings

  • 2 cans (27 to 28 ounces) airy unsweetened coconut milk
  • 3 cups low-sodium chickenhearted broth
  • 8 ounces achromatic fastener mushrooms, stemmed and thinly sliced
  • 2 6-inch stalks lemongrass, somewhat crushed and tied unneurotic with room twine
  • 1/4 cupful food sauce
  • 2 tablespoons minced ginger root
  • 1 serrano chile pepper, stemmed, seeded and coarsely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons chili-garlic sauce
  • 4 boneless, skinless chickenhearted bosom halves, chopped into strips astir 1/2 inch wide and 2 inches agelong (1 1/4 to 1 1/2 pounds)
  • 1 lime (juice only; astir 2 tablespoons)
  • 1/2 cupful thinly sliced scallions, achromatic parts lone (optional)
  • 1/4 cupful basil, chopped into precise bladed strips, for garnish
  • Cilantro leaves, for garnish
