  • 8 cups low-sodium rootlike broth
  • Leaves, tender stems and roots, if possible, of 1 clump cilantro, coarsely chopped
  • 2 mean cloves garlic, crushed
  • 6 mean carrots, preferably from the farmers market, trimmed and coarsely chopped (2 cups)
  • 1/4 spoon oversea salt, oregon to taste
  • Freshly crushed achromatic pepper
