This savory stuffing with bacon and onions adds seasonal sweetness with tart apples. Day-old crusty breadstuff gives a pleasantly irregular texture to the dish, with plentifulness of nooks and crannies.

  • 12 cups unseasoned adust breadstuff cubes (see Notes)
  • 8 ounces bacon, chopped into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 cups chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoonful sugar
  • 2 Granny Smith apples (about 6 ounces each), peeled, cored and chopped into 1/2-inch dice
  • 3 ample stalks celery, chopped
  • 2/3 cupful minced parsley leaves
  • 1 tablespoonful minced sage leaves
  • 1 tablespoonful minced thyme leaves
  • 1 spoon salt
  • Freshly crushed achromatic pepper
  • 3 cups turkey oregon chickenhearted banal oregon broth (or further arsenic necessary)
