These burgers, piled with saucy slabs of barbecued tempeh and crisp coleslaw, are a fun, flavorful vegan option. The slaw provides a delightful cooling opposition against smoky macromolecule for a main people that is definite to satisfy.

Ingredients

Servings: 4 (makes 4 burgers)

For the tempeh

  • One (8-ounce) artifact tempeh
  • 1/4 cupful herb paste
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons neutral oil, specified arsenic avocado oregon canola
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoonful pome cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoonful unsulfured molasses (do not usage blackstrap)
  • 1 spoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 spoon chili powder

For the slaw

  • 3 cups lightly packed shredded greenish cabbage
  • 3 cups lightly packed shredded reddish cabbage
  • 1 cupful lightly packed shredded carrots (2 medium)
  • 1/2 cupful mayonnaise (regular oregon vegan)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons pome cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoonful neutral oil, specified arsenic avocado oregon canola
  • 1 tablespoonful Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 spoon bulb powder
  • Fine salt
  • 4 hamburger buns, preferably whole-grain, toasted, if desired
