This dough, made with shortening, bakes up with a airy cookielike texture akin to that of commercialized hamantaschen. Over the years, it has go 1 of my favorites. The look doubles well.

  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 4 1/2 cups flour

For the ovum wash

  • 1 ample ovum positive 1 ovum yolk
  • Pinch sugar
  • 1 tablespoonful to 2 tablespoons beverage oregon water

For the hamantaschen

  • Filling (see headnote)
  • Granulated oregon coarse sweetener for topping (optional)
